Hopkins County, KY - Approval of $500,000 in coal severance dollars for a new public works building in Hopkins County topped the list of projects and services approved by a state legislative committee today for the tri-county area. The half-million dollars for building construction approved by the Government Contract Review Committee for Hopkins County was the most expensive item approved by the committee, said State Rep. Brent Yonts, D-Greenville, a member of the committee. Hopkins County also received $36,300 in coal severance dollars for improvement to the Darby House Transportation Museum and Welcome Center, $8,255 in coal severance for improvements to the Nebo Fire Station and $10,000 in coal severance funds to purchase equipment and uniforms for the Manitou Volunteer Fire Department.
Christian County's Hopkinsville Human Rights Commission received $21,250 in tobacco settlement dollars for childcare programs under the Early Childhood Development Authority, while Muhlenberg County received $8,021 in federal and state dollars to transfer control of the Muhlenberg County Area Technology Center to the county's Board of Education.
"Every cent approved by the committee today will be used to improve quality of life in our communities," said Yonts. "I am glad these dollars are available to help our counties and communities grow."
