Hopkins County, KY - An autopsy is planned for today following the death of a Ken American employee near Central City Sept. 11.
Ralph Steven Dukes, 51, of Bremen was pronounced dead at Muhlenberg Community Hospital emergency room at
3:34 p.m., according to Muhlenberg County Deputy Coroner Jimmy Rolley. The autopsy is scheduled to determine whether Dukes died of on-the-job injury or a suspected heart attack.
Times for Dukes' funeral service have not been released yet, but are planned for Tucker Funeral Home. We will release more information as it becomes available.
Dukes' death comes following several layoffs at Ken American earlier in the week. According to a spokesperson from the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, a mine shaft collapse happened when a rock fell in
slope nine from the roof onto the beltway.
The spokeperson says KenAmerican has had problems with the number nine slope because of old mine workings.
