High Winds Close Ferry

Hopkins County, KY - Anyone traveling to Cave-in-Rock today should be aware that the ferry has temporarily ceased operation due to high winds on the Ohio River.   15 mile per hour and higher winds coming up the river have created high waves that have forced the ferry to close until the wind speed drops or the wind direction changes.

The Cave-In-Rock Ferry connects KY 91 with ILLINOIS Route 1 across the Ohio River between Marion in Crittenden County, KY, and Cave-In-Rock in Hardin County, IL.

The ferry normally operates from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. central time, 7 days a week and carries about 500 vehicles across the Ohio River in an average day.

The Cave-In-Rock Ferry is operated by an independent contractor with joint funding from KYTC and IDot through a ferry authority.
