Roadwork Continues on KY 70

Madisonville, KY - Those traveling to Central City via KY 70/Central City Road should be advised that the road will continue to remain CLOSED at the Muhlenberg-Hopkins County line through Wednesday, October 14, 2009.

This closure on KY 70 is between the 0.0 and 1.0 mile marker in Muhlenberg County.  The closure is to allow a contractor to drive sheet piling along the right of way to help stabilize an elevated section of roadway near the Pond River Bridge just east of the Muhlenberg-Hopkins County Line.

The roadway was scheduled to reopen to traffic over the weekend.  However, heavy rains over the last several days have push the completion date back to Wednesday.

Motorists who regularly travel KY 70/Central City Road between Madisonville and Central City have been following a marked detour via KY 85, KY 81 and KY 181.

Approximately 2,600 vehicles travel this section of KY 70 in an average day. Work at the site should be completed by Wednesday afternoon, weather permitting.
