Madisonville, KY - The Madisonville City Water Filtration Plant at Lake PeeWee hosted their Hopkins County – Madisonville Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting today, Monday October 19th at 11:30 a.m. The ribbon cutting is to give the community a look at their new water filtration plant.  

Plant Superintendent, Keith Curnel welcomed the guest and introduced many of the key figures in bringing the new water filtration plant to the citizens of Hopkins County. This Plant is the first of its kind in the Commonwealth and functions with first rate technologies. The new water filtration plant is very important to our area, since water is our most precious resource. Jackie Logsdon, Division of water told the attendees that the new plant’s water is 10 times more filtered than required for regular filtration.  You can watch the video below of Keith Curnel explaining the water filtration process.

The areas that the Lake PeeWee Plant services are: Hopkins County, Nebo, Earlington, and Hanson. The Plant produces 8 million gallons of water daily and the cost to the community was $12.5 million. The older portions of the filtration plant were able to be incorporated into the new process which saved money on the project.

Mr. Curnel told iSurf an interesting fact about lake PeeWee.  Several years ago Paddle fish were released into Peewee Lake. Next year some of the male Paddle Fish will be harvested for their meat and the female Paddle will be left in the lake for about 5 to 8 years and then their eggs will be harvested and sold for Caviar.
