Hopkins County, KY – The names of three local attorneys have been submitted to the Kentucky Judicial Nominating Commission to fill the vacant District Court judgeship being vacated by current District Judge Rob Soder.
The three attorneys nominated are, Kimberly Poe Gilliam, William R. Whitledge and Christopher B. Oglesby.
Soder resigned on Jan. 4th to join the Kentucky Senior Judge Program.
Poe of Madisonville is a staff attorney of Hopkins County Family Court Judge Susan Wesley McClure. She earned her juris doctor at Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1985.
Whitldge of Madisonville has a sole law practice in the city. He earned his juris doctor at the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1967.
Oglesby of White Plains is a partner with the law firm of P'Pool, Oglesby & Riddle in Madisonville and is assistant prosecutor with P'Pool in the Hopkins County Attorney's Office. He earned his juris doctor at the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at the Northern Kentucky University in 1997.
The Commission, led by Chief Justice Minton, will now send a letter naming the three nominees to Gov. Steve Beshear for review. The governor has 60 days to appoint a replacement and then make a public announcement regarding his decision.
The Hopkins County District Court is a court of limited jurisdiction. City & county ordinances, misdemeanors, traffic offenses, probate of wills, felony preliminary hearings, small claims, civil cases involving less than $4000, domestic violence & abuse and juvenile matters are all district court matters.
The attorney chosen to fill this vacancy will complete Soder's term in office which ends in 2010.
