Madisonville Sewage Lines Expanding Outside City Limits

iSurf News - Digging in Chateau Trailer ParkHOPKINS COUNTY, KY - The Madisonville City Water Department has released detailed information to iSurf News regarding the constant digging and large equipment activity along the southern end of the city.

Madisonville Waste Water Collection Superintendent Raymond Sanders informed reporters that the current digging that is being done within and around the Chateau Trailer Park is merely the ongoing project of making city sewage lines available to those outside the city limits.

The project originally began around 2004 as the Waste Water Collection Department performed a feasibility study designed to see if city sewage for those outside the city limits was even a possibility. As a result, the state funded 1.35 million dollars towards the first phase of the project. At the time, the estimated cost would be 9 million dollars for the complete project from start to finish. Sanders stated that this figure will have likely changed due to the shift in the economy in the last five years.

The initial sewage line placement began in April of this year. Currently, phase one is very close to being finished at roughly 400 feet of line left to lay in the Chateau Trailer Park area.

As local opinions go, Sanders stated that he was very pleased with the county on all levels regarding the project. “The city, county, and state have really come together to get sewage options out to where people are dumping in old mines or inadequate septic systems,” Sanders said. “On top of that, the people, such as those currently living in Chateau Trailer Park, have been outstanding in understanding the need to do this. Chateau has, by far, experienced the worst disruption in their daily lives. This is a good example of government and individuals working together.”

The Waste Water Collection Department estimates that by the end of December the first phase will be completed. The second phase will then start and will hopefully be finished by December of 2010. Sanders stated that local rumors regarding the digging as the result of a new sewage treatment plant being built are completely false.
