State Treasurer Invites Hopkins County Citizens to Claim Their Money

HOPKINS COUNTY, KY - At a meeting in downtown Madisonville on Tuesday, Kentucky State Treasurer Todd Hollenbach made an announcement that could very well impact particular citizens of Hopkins County.

After a brief introduction by Mayor Cox, Hollenbach informed local individuals and media representatives, including iSurf News, that the Treasure Finders Program would be coming to Hopkins County on November 10th.

Treasure Finders is a program designed to locate individuals within the state of Kentucky that have money that is owed to them from a large variety of sources. This could be funds from wills, stocks, overpaid bills, deposits, and many other businesses, organizations, or even individuals. These so-called “forgotten” funds could have even been from many generations past in a family lineage.

According to Hollenbach, Hopkins County alone has $1,750,000.00 owed to individual citizens. The total number of individual county citizens who have unclaimed money is over 6000. Out of 120 counties, Hopkins County will be the seventh county in the state of Kentucky that The Treasure Finders Program has visited, and the first in Western Kentucky.

“Trying to get the money back to the people to whom it belongs makes you feel like you are on the side of the angels,” said Hollenbach during the meeting. “It’s our small version of a stimulus package to get peoples money back to them.”

The amounts that claimants can receive will vary. One woman from Eastern Kentucky found she had $100,000.00 in stocks that she was unaware of. Locally, Marion Miller of Hopkins County discovered $75.00 owed to her.

The Treasure Finders will have volunteers set up in Hopkins County at the Fiscal Court Building on November 10 between the hours of 1 and 4 P.M. Anyone may show up and see if they have lost funds, regardless of what county they live in.
