Over $350,000 approved by state for Hopkins County

Hopkins County, KY – A state legislative committee has approved over $350,000 in funding for projects and services in Hopkins County and nearly $5,000 in federal funds for infrastructure improvement in Greenville.

Rep. Brent Yonts, D-Greenville, who is a member of the Government Contract Review Committee that approved the funds, said the funding for Hopkins County includes $250,000 in coal severance dollars to help build a new office building, John Deere cab tractor, oil tank and pickup trucks for public works.

The committee also awarded $100,000 in coal severance funds to the City of Dawson Springs for construction of a new city building.

Yonts said the funding will help the county and its communities invest in the future.

“Without these funds, we would not be able to develop our public works and maintain the level of public service and public safety we need,” he said.

Also awarded by the committee was $6,745 to the Hopkins County Health Department for flu, Hepatitis B and Tetanus vaccinations for state transportation workers who work in the county.

Yonts said the City of Greenville in Muhlenberg County was awarded $4,898 in federal funds to acquire and install an 18 kilowatt generator as a backup power source for the City of Greenville Fire Department.

“Everything we can do to ensure, and enhance, public safety in our communities is important,” said Yonts.
