John Hamilton Arrested for Shoplifting

HOPKINS COUNTY, KY - In an unexpected turn of events on Tuesday evening, November 24, Earlington resident John W. Hamilton was arrested for shoplifting at the Madisonville Wal-Mart just off Pennyrile Parkway.

At the time Hamilton was out of jail on a $20,000.00 bond by Mayor Michael Seiber of Earlington in the recent case of the death of Julia Wooten in early September.

According to local officials, Hamilton stole a rifle scope from the Wal-Mart sporting goods department and hid it inside his boot. He was approached by Wal-Mart personnel who attempted to get Hamilton to return the scope. Hamilton refused and left the facility. Hopkins County Law-enforcement pulled Hamilton over several miles away and found the scope after an in-depth vehicle search. Hamilton was taken into custody on the scene.

Hamilton was housed in the Hopkins County Jail temporarily and charged with shoplifting. He was released shortly afterwards via payment of his own $50.00 bond.

The conditions that Hamilton’s prior bonding included he could not have any further violation of any law and could not operate a motor vehicle. Hamilton will have to return to court where the acting Judge will discern if the prior bond paid by Mayor Seiber will be held accountable.
