HOPKINS COUNTY, KY – Princeton, Ky Fire Chief Brent Francis displays a well done turkey from a turkey fryer blamed for the fire leaving 30 homeless.
While the oven baked turkey is considered to be the traditional method of preparation, deep frying has become more popular in recent years. iSurf Caldwell County was on the scene of an apartment fire in Princeton, Ky Wednesday November 25th that left 30 people homeless.
Fire Chief Brent Francis determined the cause of the fire to be a deep fryer used to deep fry a turkey. The apartment complex was located between the Chevron bulk plant and Fortner Gas in Princeton. While the rear of the Chevron bulk plant was destroyed, the fast action of the Princeton Fire Department prevented 5 barrels of petroleum from causing additional damage to the property.
According to Jeanie Barnett of the Red Cross, 30 people have been displaced by the fire and the Red Cross is working to organize housing at this time. Brenda Parker, Emergency Services Coordinator for the Western Kentucky Chapter of the Red Cross stated that of the 5 people transported to the hospital, 2 remain hospitalized and their conditions are unknown at this time.
As reported by iSurf earlier today, Jeanie Barnett of the Red Cross encourages everyone to inspect their home for possible fire hazards and take appropriate action to prevent home fires.
According to the Red Cross, the estimated cost of assistance for those displaced is likely to be over $10,000.
So, if you decided to deep fry your turkey this year, for the sake of everyone around you and your own well being, follow the recommended safety precautions and don’t over fill the fryer and stay away from structures.
