Salvation Army Red Kettle Kick Off

MADISONVILLE, KY – Kassy Holmes rings her bell in front of Wal-Mart as the Salvation Army kicks off their annual Holiday Red Kettle Fundraiser. iSurf News was on hand as Mayor Will Cox and several board members came out to show support for this annual event.

Salvation Army Chairman, Joe Collins said, “The local Salvation Army incorporates both Hopkins and Muhlenberg Counties and we’ve been recruiting more this year than in the past because the need is greater.”  Chip Tate, Vice Chairman added, “Because  of the economy downturn in the past year there are more people in need, so we’ve been recruiting more volunteers with hopes of putting more money directly into the system instead of paying people to ring bells.”

While some metropolitan areas have added card swiping stations to the red kettles, Chairman Collins says due to the great installation costs, Hopkins and Muhlenberg residents should not look for swipe stations this year.

The Salvation Army will have red kettle stations and bell ringers located at all major shopping centers from now until Christmas.  All Hopkins and Muhlenberg County residents are asked to give generously, as they have in the past, to help those in need.
