MADISONVILLE, KY – Many vendors as well as shoppers have recently expressed considerable concern regarding the outcome of the annual Black Friday shopping day at Parkway Plaza Mall. There has been a fear of injuries, anger, and simply all-around chaos, as has happened in local shopping outlets in the past. Fortunately, that was not the case during the kick-off of this holiday season.
The mall opened at 6:00 AM to a massive crowd of holiday shoppers, both excited as well as slightly apprehensive. According to Bath and Body Works employee Megan Martin, she arrived just as the doors were opened and could not get into the shop due to the hundreds of people trying to get in.
“There were a lot of people, but it wasn’t as crazy as we thought it would be. In our shop, everyone has been really friendly,” Martin said.
Readmore Books assistant manager Browning said that book sales were up considerably for that day alone. She went on to tell reporters that she had been working at Readmore for 4 years and this was by far much busier than past Black Fridays. Radio Shack employees also stated that sales were up considerably over the past few holiday seasons.
Various shoppers interviewed throughout the mall said that the entire experience was much more pleasant than was expected. In Wal-Mart in Jasper Indiana, for example, two individuals exchanged blows over a pair of jeans. In Madisonville, however, everyone seemed to reflect that this Black Friday was actually a fun time at Parkway Plaza Mall.
