Partnership Provides Exciting News Opportunities for Webster County

Providence - Webster County, KY:  The Journal-Enterprise and iSurfWebster.com announce their media partnership to provide Webster County Kentucky with a dynamic, daily, online newspaper.

This partnership combines 105 years of rich, local publishing history with the technology available in an online delivery system.  The combination provides news as it happens in Webster County with the professional coverage still found in Wednesday's print edition of The Journal-Enterprise.

The Journal-Enterprise has been Webster County's most trusted news source for 105 years. The weekly publication was known as The Providence Journal when it began in 1905 and its owners also published The Dixon Journal, another weekly paper.

The two combined in the middle 1900's to become The Journal-Enterprise. Then owner J. L. Bradley of Providence also published a smaller paper each Friday called The Clay Tribune. It was combined with The Journal-Enterprise in 1968.

Edd and Sue Hust of Sebree purchased The Journal-Enterprise in 1963. Edd had worked at the Sebree Banner throughout high school and after graduation. He later worked at the Evansville Courier as a linotype operator. Sue worked at Sebree Deposit Bank.

Upon purchase of The Journal-Enterprise, Edd and Sue, along with their four children Barbara, Billy, Charlie and Betsy moved to Providence. The Hust family's hard work and dedication to the newspaper and to the citizens of Webster County turned a small weekly newspaper into one of the top publications of its size in the state. The J-E has won many Kentucky Press Association Awards in all areas of news and sports reporting and photography as well as numerous editorially content as well. Under the direction of the Hust family, the newspaper grew from a small 10-12 weekly edition to over 28 pages per week. The circulation also flourished throughout those years.

Charlie Hust took over the day-to-day operational control of The J-E upon his graduation from Georgetown College in 1980. Having worked throughout his high school years at the newspaper in all phases of the publication, he turned his focus on growing the newspaper in both advertising revenues and circulation upon his return to Providence. He was named Publisher of the paper in 1990 upon the semi-retirement of Edd and he still holds that title. He, along with his sisters Barbara and Betsy, purchased the newspaper in 1996 and remain owners today.

Despite slumping sales and advertising revenue in the newspaper industry in the past 10 years, The Journal-Enterprise remains strong financially and is still the "total news source for Webster County", combining a award-winning weekly publication along with a heavily-visited website.  iSurfWebster.com brings the Information Technology, graphics, video, and search engine optimization features critical in today's online media.  The partnership with iSurfWebster.com (a subsidiary of iSurf WKY, Inc. also locally owned) provides Webster County a community website without a county line.
