Madisonville, Ky. - An Earlington man is back in jail following a hit-and-run incident that occurred Sunday. But this time, 33 year old John Hamilton is charged with murder and 1st degree wanton endangerment. The incident occurred early Sunday morning as 18 year old Julia Wooten was crossing West Main Street. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Hopkins County Coroner Jeff Mayfield.
Two other suspects have also been arrested in connection to the incident. 25 year old Brandon Perkins and 21 year old Megan Shadrick, both of Earlington. Detective Matt Sanderson told iSurf News that Perkins was operating the Loch Mary Center and selling alcohol without carding customers during a party. He said some of his customers were under the legal drinking age of 21. Shadrick was bartending the party. Julia Wooten had just left the center when the hit and run incident occurred. Both Perkins and Shadrick have been charged with 2 counts of unlawful transaction with a minor-3rd degree.
Funeral Services were held this afternoon for Julia Elizabeth Wooten of Earlington. Wooten was killed by a drunk driver while crossing an Earlington City Street. Wooten was a graduate of the Hopkins County Central High School and she was employed at the Madison Square Subway restaurant in Madisonville. The store was closed today in her memory and so the employees could attend funeral services at Barnett-Strother.Memorial contributions can be made to the Family Advocacy Center at 228 South Main Street in Madisonville.
The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office reported Sunday that Hamilton was traveling East in a Ford Mustang when he struck Wooten. Hamilton and a passenger, 23 year old Jamel Woods fled the scene but returned later and where taken into custody.
Hamilton was originally charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, leaving the scene of an accident, and with failure to render aid or assistance. Woods was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to render aid or assistance. The two men were lodged in the Hopkins County Jail. Hamilton was able leave the jail on bond but was taken into custody this morning by the Sheriff's Department. Hopkins County Commonwealth's Attorney, David Massamore signed the arrest warrant for murder this morning.
