HOPKINS COUNTY KY - The Madisonville Fire Department reports for March 5 through March 8:
On March 5, at 10:50 a.m. an alarm was received from Central Dispatch for a fire alarm at 230 Baldwin Dr., Electro Cycle. Upon arrival, fire crew noticed water flow from the overflow outside of the sprinkler room. Crew met with maintenance supervisor, and he advised that a forklift had damaged a sprinkler head and caused the alarm to activate. Fire crew confirmed this upon investigation. Fire crew advised maintenance to contact Central upon reactivation of fire alarm system. Scene was deemed safe all units returned to station at 11:19 a.m.
On March 5, at 2:06 p.m. an alarm was received from Central Dispatch for a fire alarm at 230 Baldwin Dr., Electro Cycle (Plant Manager-Dan Demarcurio). Upon arrival, fire crew found nothing unusual. Upon investigating, fire crew spoke with the maintenance supervisor and he advised that they had just finished repairs on the sprinkler system and reset the system. These actions caused an active fire alarm. Alarm was reset and fire crew advised Central Dispatch that the alarm system was normal and operational. Scene was deemed safe and all crews returned to station at 2:31 pm.
On March 5, 2010 at 3:09 p.m. an alarm was received from Central Dispatch for a possible structure fire at 1008 Hopewell Street. Upon arrival, 17-1 gave a seize up of heavy smoke showing, wood frame structure, single family dwelling, smoke coming out of the D side. Engine 16 responded as ventilation crew. Ladder 1 responded as RIT. The homeowner (Glenda McGlond) reported that a small propane heater was in the living room that was being used for heat. A 360 was preformed while fire crew deployed a 150 ft. 1 3/4" preconnect for the initial fire attack. positive pressure ventilation fan was set up on the D side of the structure at the entry point. The back door was opened up for ventilation. A 200' 1 3/4' safety line was pulled. Fire crew went to pull the electric meter but it was not in place due to a fire earlier last month. 125' of 5" line was laid to the hydrant to supply Engine 16 with water. The fire was declared under control at 1540. All hot spots were extinguished. Fire Scene tape was put around structure. Area was deemed safe and all units returned to station at 3:48 p.m.
On March 6, 2010 at 8:53 a.m. an alarm was received from Central Dispatch for report of fire alarm activation at 1076 North Main St. Taco Johns Restaurant. Crews were notified in route that they were notified it was a false alarm. Upon arrival found light smoke in the structure. Crews located employees and verified there was no fire. Employees already had doors open to ventilate. Fire crews were advised that the alarm was set off due to changing oil in the deep fryer. Smoke had cleared, scene was deemed safe, and all units returned to station without incident at 9:12 a.m.
On March 6, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. an alarm was received from Central Dispatch for a brush fire at 328 Hamilton Drive. Upon arrival fire crew found a fire in the wooded area beside the structure. Crews extinguished the fire with the 1 3/4" preconnected hose line and brush rakes. The fire was declared under control at 1337. It was determined that the fire was intentionally started by a small child. The child was counseled about starting fires. No further action was taken. All units returned to station 1:56 p.m.
On March 6, 2010 at 2:15 p.m. a call was received at Station One via public service advising of a possible rekindle at 1008 Hopewell Street. There was a previous call on March 5, 2010. Upon arrival fire crew found nothing showing. Fire Crew checked the entire structure and determined that no fire or hot spots existed. The scene was deemed safe. All units returned to station at 2:39 p.m.
On March 7, 2010 at 12:26 a.m. an alarm was received from Central Dispatch for a possible structure fire at 970 E. Center Street, Rally's Hamburgers. Upon arrival fire crews found nothing showing. Crews met with restaurant manager and was informed that they thought they had seen smoke coming from the roof. Crews checked the roof. No signs of smoke or fire could be found. Crews searched the interior of the building. Firefighters did notice a strange smell inside the structure. Interior crew checked the store using the Thermal Imaging Camera. The area above the ceiling tile was also checked. No signs of smoke or fire were found. Area was deemed safe. No further action was taken. All units returned to station at 1:36 a.m.
On March 7, 2010 at 4:58 p.m. an alarm was received from Central Dispatch for an out of control brush fire behind a residence (owner J. Poe) on Pepper Dr. On arrival fire crew encountered a field fire behind 1146 Pepper Dr. Engine 17 crew deployed 550' of hose to reach the north side perimeter while Engine 16 crew deployed 450' of hose to the south side perimeter. Engine 12 also responded and contained the eastside perimeter by use of forestry rakes and flappers. The fire was under control at1720. The cause of fire was due to embers from a campfire. Scene was deemed safe and all units returned to station 6:08 p.m.
