The Daughters Of Brighton Beach Memoirs

Hopkins County, KY - As we get toward the end of our Up Close and Personal series, today you will get to meet the daughters of Brighton Beach, Laurie and Nora. An 8th grader at James Madison Middle School, Morgan P’Pool will be playing the role of Laurie.

Laurie is the younger of the two daughters, and tends to be rather sickly as she has heart disease. Though she has some health issues, she is not as sick as people think that she is and she is also smarter than people think that she is. She however, will play her sickness to the hilt doing as little as possible and playing on everyone’s sympathies. As the show progresses, look for Laurie to open up a little more as well and learn not to be quite so smart. Watch as she really shows her support for her older sister and her endeavors.

Showing support is nothing new for Morgan. As the oldest daughter of Todd and Shannon P’pool, she has had a lot of opportunities to support her father in his efforts to win the County Attorney position. In turn, she specifically mentioned and was thankful for the support her entire family has given her as she plays the role of Laurie. Morgan has two younger sisters named Mollie and Katie. A very busy 14-yr old, Morgan is also on the swim team, the dance team at James Madison Middle School, plays the clarinet in the band as well as playing the piano for her church. Her future plans consist of someday doing something in the theater.

Katherine Kelley is the only daughter of Bob and Nancy Kelley and shares the role of Nora with her audience. A 17-year-old senior at Madisonville North Hopkins High School, she will be attending the University of Alabama majoring in International Studies in the fall. Another busy young lady, she is on the dance team at MNHS, on the Academic Team at MNHS and in the choir. She also sings, dances and plays the piano. If you think that she looks familiar you may have seen her in the Veterans Day Parade as shee is also Miss Jr. Miss for Hopkins County. She has been involved with various shows and in various positions for the last 6 years. She offers her thanks to the casting crew and all of those that have been involved in this show. She is excited about her role and is excited about sharing Nora with the audience.

Nora is a self-centered 16-year-old dancer. Her biggest dream is to dance on Broadway. An opportunity comes her way to audition for a part that would let her fulfill her dream. She wants this for herself as well as for her family so that they can get out of poverty. Does she get to audition for the part? If she auditions for the part, does she get it? If she doesn’t get it what happens to her? Through all of this, what does she think about her little sister? All of these questions will be answered for you when you come to see Brighton Beach Memoirs at the Glema Mahr Fine Arts Center in Madisonville, KY on November 19th , November 20, and November 21st at 6:30.
