The Director Of Brighton Beach Memoirs

Hopkins County, KY - Known as the “Sound Man” of Glema Mahr Center For The Arts, Rob Blumrick takes on a new role as he switches gears and becomes the Director of the play Brighton Beach Memoirs that will be showing at 6:30 on November 19-21.

Originally from Houston, TX, we can thank the U.S. Army for bringing Rob to Western KY. After finishing up at Ft. Campbell, Rob attended and graduated from Murray State University with a degree in theater. Starting as a business major, Rob changed degrees so that he could pursue his first love, which was anything to do with sound. Working with sound in a theater or live stage setting opened up a whole new world for Rob. A bass guitar musician in his own right, Rob however has found his instrument in the sound board as he mixes the sounds and effects to give the audience the best sound possible at Glema Mahr.

Having previously directed some plays, the opportunity opened up for Rob to become the director of this production of Brighton Beach Memoirs. As a director, he has been able to communicate his vision to the actors and then let them bring to life this vision through the characters that they portray. He has given them the tools through various things such as diction and rhythm exercises to help them fine-tune what they present to the audience. As you enjoy these performances, know that the director spent a lot of time learning about what was going on in the world during the late 1930’s; from the political situation to the music, culture and dress during this time. You will see this portrayed while watching each of the characters come to life in front of you. He thanks all of those who have been involved with the production of this play, beginning with one of the motivating forces in his life, his son Spicer, to the actors and actresses and all of the those that worked on the set, or helped with props and costumes. Don't miss this wonderful comedy at Glema Mahr Center for the Arts at 6:30 on November 19-21 in Madisonville, KY.
