HOPKINS COUNTY, KY - Girl Scout Troop 259 from Madisonville, KY traveled to Savannah, GA in July.
The Troop visited the Juliette Gordon Low (the founder of Girl Scouts) Birthplace where the Junior members of the troop bridged to Cadette Girl Scouts in a special ceremony in the gardens of the Birthplace. The two Senior Girl Scout Members, Haylee Taylor and Olivia Senter helped with the ceremony in welcoming the younger girls into their troop as Cadettes. The Cadette Girl Scouts include Libby Shockley, Gillian Senter, Katie Waide, Sarah Lutz, Caitlin Crutcher, and Emma Ruschell. The girls participated in the “Come into My Parlor” special interest session where they learned what life was like for Juliette Gordon Low as a young lady in Victorian times.
While in Savannah, the girls took a ghost carriage tour, a dolphin cruise and had a scavenger hunt through Savannah's historic squares, including the one in the movie Forrest Gump. The girls visited nearby Tybee Island where they visited the Marine Science Center and participated in the beach program where they learned about the marine ecosystem first hand and caught fish by seining.

The girls visited the Girl Scouts First Headquarters located in the carriage house of Juliette Gordon Low's adult home. There they learned about early girl scouting and the history of Girl Scouts.
